Another Mondonedo in Barcelona

Well, more of a Mondonedo-Campos. To introduce myself, I am the daughter of Sylvia M. Campos. I just came back from Barcelona, Portugal and Germany yesterday. Funny enough, when I checked in our hotel in Barcelona, the front desk clerk immediately told me that my middle name was a town in Galicia. And then I read it here in the blog. Anyway, yes the city was great! Friendly people, the mix of buildings quite arresting, and the culinary experience is something to be had - at all times. The paella in the photo is the first meal I had. It is very different than the Filipino paella I've had — more risotto-like — and very, very good. I can still taste the different layers of flavor as I am imagining it! Just thought I'd share some.

A Mondonedo now resides in Barcelona

I have officially posted the Rene & Jane Mondonedo blog and our first entry comes from my daughter Rebecca (19 years old - a junior at Villanova University) who will be spending her Fall semester in Barcelona. She just left yesterday and here is her first entry from Spain. My hope is she will be able to travel to the town of Mondonedo. My oldest son Matthew has now graduated from Franklin & Marshall College and is working for a French electronics communications firm here in Maryland as a production planner. Jake has entered high school and is on the golf team. We will try to psot somepictures soon. Hey all, Just wanted to let you know that I got here to Barcelona, safe and sound. After a quick plane ride up to philly, a couple hours layover there and then a seven and a half hour flight here! I took Nyquil, so I slept some. I was in the middle row, in the aisle, and no one sat next to me, so I had some space to stretch out. But of course, there was someone in the cabin who would not stop whistling, it was really annoying. And there was a baby in front of me as well. But I made it through. They fed us dinner and had a movie on, but I just mostly tried to sleep. I got into the airport, breezed through customs and waited for me bags. I was with a guy friend of mine as we got our bags (yes, my bags did come, despite my incessant fear that they would be left behind somewhere) and then we were off to find the ¨black horse¨ statue where someone from the program would be waiting. After waiting in a long line, I registered, which was basically for people who didn´t do what they were supposed to (like uploading their photos for IDs of giving them their return travel info). I got my housing, which I already knew, and then split a cab with another kid on my street. I buzzed up to my apartment, my senora answered (in spanish!) Then I was let in, and jumped into a TINY elevator with all my luggage, and found Elisa, my senora, and Meghan, my roommate, waiting for me. I gave Elisa the gifts that I had brought, which she loved, and I got some things settled in our room, which is... quaint... thats what I´ll call it. Then Elisa wanted to show us how to us the metro and get to school. So after some mishaps on figuring out the metro, since Elisa normally takes the bus, we got to the Plaza Catalunya, where or school is near. It is near Las Ramblas, a big shopping street, and now Meghan and I are checking our emails in the school computer lab. Our wireless internet will get set up this weekend while we are on our orientation trip in Galicia, which is apparently colder than it is here. Our flight for that leaves at 6 in the morning on thursday, so we have to be there at 3:30! Soo early. Tomorrow I take a spanish test, I guess its to make sure that they placed me in the right spanish. Anyways, not all that much as happened, contrary to what this email makes it look like. But I am HERE!! so that is exciting in itself. Anyways, I will write again when I get a chance, but just think of me, here in Barcelona!
